In a fantasy football league, the most valuable asset is the team manager’s ability to know when to buy players who are on the cusp of breaking out and knowing when to cut loose a player who is about to go into decline. Much like the real-world stock market, making the wrong decisions sometimes can lead to cataclysmic consequences. If you are in a league where you can unload or load up on some of these players, do so!
QUARTERBACK
BUY LOW
Justin Fields, Chicago (Owned in 88% of leagues)
Fields is not a great quarterback and probably won’t even be the starter for Chicago next year, but he has the potential to finish the season strong for you. Chicago goes up against Arizona and Atlanta next – both very beatable passing defenses. If there was any time to sneak a trade or pickup on a subpar quarterback, this is it.
SELL HIGH
Jared Goff, Detroit (Owned in 70% of leagues)
I’m aware that I told everyone to buy Goff last week and I was right. Now it’s time to sell him. Goff got away with his great matchup against Denver but now faces Minnesota and Dallas during these next two crucial weeks of fantasy playoffs. These will not be great matchups for Goff and you don’t want him to sink your season.
RUNNING BACK
BUY LOW
Tyjae Spears, Tennessee (Owned in 40% of leagues)
You want to look like a fantasy genius next week? Go get Spears. While the Tennessee/Houston game was a huge disappointment and Spears may only have six fantasy points to show for it, it showed us some great things. Spears got nine carries and was targeted in the receiving game. I am not saying that he is going to be taking over for Derrick Henry anytime soon, but if this guy gets this volume consistently from Will Levis (or whichever Tennessee is playing due to Levis’ injury), he will have flex value. Seattle’s defense is way worse than Houston’s. Expect at least 10 points from Spears next week.
SELL HIGH
Devin Singletary, Houston (Owned in 70% of leagues)
On the other side of that same game, I am looking to trade away Singletary. Tennessee – while not a great rushing defense – was without one of its best rush defense players, which meant the run game looked more stellar than it actually is. Cleveland will not be giving up the same yardage. Singletary is still vying for the lead back position between himself and Dameon Pierce, so it is hard to trust him as is. I am fine finishing the season without this guy on my roster.
